The wonderful thing about owning a corgi is getting to know the unusual quirks they have.

1. It’s feels comfortable
One reason why corgis sleep on their backs is because it’s really comfortable for them.
Corgis have unusually long spines and stubby legs.
This puts additional pressure on their backs and joints.
At the end of a long day, there’s nothing more relaxing than taking the weight off and letting gravity work its magic!
2. They want to cool down
Another reason why corgis sleep on their backs is because they’re hot and want to cool down.
Laying with their back flat against the ground is sometimes the coolest place to be.
So if you notice your corgi sleeping on their back more during warmer months, don’t worry.
The cool floor will give them some respite from the sleep-inducing heat!
3. It gives them a feeling of security
Corgis won’t sleep on their backs unless they feel 100% comfortable with their owner.
That’s because this position, which exposes their tummy, is a vulnerable one.
So if your corgi sleeps on their back, this means that they trust you implicitly and feel very safe in your company.

Some corgis sleep on their backs because it gives them a nice, big stretch.
As well as elongating their spine, it gives them an opportunity to stretch their little legs towards the ceiling.

Particularly those with bodies shaped like corgis.
With their long backs and short legs, corgis have a natural inclination to sleep on their backs as it’s usually more comfortable for them.
