Unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock, you’ll already know that the most famous person in the world to own corgis was Queen Elizabeth.
But did you know that actress Julie Andrews also once owned a corgi?
What about chef Alton Brown?
With the huge popularity of Netflix show The Crown, corgis have (once again!) won the hearts of people (and celebrities) all over the world.
Let’s take a look at the 12 most famous celebrities with corgis below.
1. Queen Elizabeth II
The most famous person in the world to own corgis was none other than Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen’s corgis, or “Royal corgis” as they’re known, even have their own Wikipedia page!
Elizabeth first fell in love with the corgis owned by the children of the Marquess of Bath and so, in 1933, King George VI brough home Dookie.
Elizabeth and her sister Margaret would feed Dookie by hand from a dish held by a footman.
The corgis enjoyed a privileged life in Buckingham Palace. They had a room all to themselves known as the Corgi Room and slept in elevated wicker baskets.
Fresh rabbit and beef was served to the corgis by a gourmet chef and at Christmas, the Queen made stockings for the pets full of toys and delicacies such as biscuits.
2. Stephen King
The second most famous person to own a corgi is crime writer Stephen King.
Stephen regularly posts about Molly—aka “Thing Of Evil”—and her murderous tendencies on Twitter.
Born in 2014, Molly is 9 years old at time of writing.
But King isn’t just a fan of pet corgis—he also likes to include them in his fiction.
There’s Phil the corgi in the short story L. T.’s Theory of Pets, Horace the corgi in Under The Dome, and Daisy the corgi in The Regulators.
3. Elvis Presley
Ok, so Elvis didn’t technically own his own corgi but we couldn’t not include this adorable photo of Presley and his corgi co-star in Blue Hawaii.
4. Stephen Fry
National British treasure Stephen Fry is photographed with a lovely corgi in front of Buckingham Palace.
Now whether Fry actually owns any corgis is hard to tell, but we couldn’t not include this quintessentially British photo in the collection!
5. Betty White
It’s unclear whether Betty White actually owned this adorable corgi but he certainly liked her!
6. Alton Brown
Chef Alton Brown owns two corgis, Sparky and Daisy.
He recently made a YouTube video with Sparky about how to make ‘Terrifically Terrible Stinkin’ Treats’.
He was inspired to create this recipe after Sparky was found munching on cat litter.
7. Julie Andrews
When Julie Andrews was 13 years old, she got a Welsh corgi puppy called Humpty Dumpty.
They were known as Julie and ‘Hump’ and were inseperable throughout her teen years.
In a 1966 edition of Good Housekeeping about her favorite things, Julie Andrews said:
One of the dearest pets I owned, when I was thirteen, was a little Welsh corgi, Humpty Dumpty, who hated cats. One day I saw a stray in the garden, a wonderful kitteny ball of fur, and suddenly I was determined to change Humpty Dumpty’s mind about cats. I had a hunch that he wouldn’t hurt anything young, and I was right-I wish you could have seen them playing together like school-chums.”
8. Kiefer Sutherland
Kiefer Sutherland owned a Welsh corgi called “Mr Peterson”.
9. Ava Gardner
American film actress Ava Gardner was a huge lover of corgis and considered them her babies.
Frank Sinatra gave Ava her first corgi, Rags, as a birthday present on Christmas Eve in 1953 and after that she was never without a corgi.
10. Selma Blair
Before he passed away a few years ago, Winkie was a beloved corgi mix owned by Selma Blair.
11. Hilary Duff
In December 2022, actress Hilary Duff shared a photo on Instagram of herself and daughters Banks and Mae with an adorable corgi puppy named Ham.
12. Jennifer Aniston
Up until his death at 15 years old in 2011, Jennifer Aniston owned Norman (or “Norm”), a Welsh corgi-terrier mix.
He came with her everywhere, including on film location shoots. And in 1998 the naughty puppy went missing for two days and turned up at an animal shelter.
Aniston told PEOPLE magazine in 2008 that Norman was “just a person in a dog suit” and even purchased a $4.95 million apartment in New York under the name ‘Norman’s Nest Trust’.
