How Much Do Corgis Sleep? The Answer May Surprise You

How much do corgis sleep?

Are corgis lazy?

When you see so many adorable videos of corgis snoozing and splooting online, it’s no surprise you’re asking yourself those questions.

Let’s take a closer look at how much corgis really sleep, what’s normal for dogs, and how this differs for puppies.

Do corgis sleep a lot?

Corgis sleep as much as most other dogs, which is an average of 11 hours per day.

Some corgis sleep more than this (13-14 hours), while others sleep less (9-10 hours).

My corgi, Winston, sleeps for about 8 hours through the night (10am-6am) and also naps throughout the day.

Like me, if he has a late night because we’re travelling back from a restaurant or seeing friends, he definitely feels it the next day!

He will sleep in beyond his usual 6am wake-up call and take extra naps during the day.

You might be surprised to learn how much corgis sleep, but this is totally normal.

Dogs will only expend energy when they need to, for playing, hunting or socializing.

If they need to sleep, they will.

A corgi that gets at least 60 minutes of exercise a day and plenty of sleep, is a healthy, happy corgi!

How much do corgi puppies sleep?

Corgi puppies will sleep a lot more than adults.

It isn’t unusual for a corgi puppy to sleep up to 18 hours a day.

Sleeping is really important for a puppy’s development, so make sure your little one has a comfortable, calm environment to sleep in.

Can corgis be left alone for 8 hours?

No, I don’t recommend leaving your corgi alone for 8 hours during the day.

Corgis are very affectionate dogs that love human company. They are most suitable for people who work from home or who are allowed to take dogs with them into the office.

It’s ok to leave your corgi alone for a few hours at a time every now and then, but I strongly advise against making a habit out of this.

Too much time alone can make your corgi unhappy. And unhappiness can lead to behavioral problems and health issues.

If you work full-time (and can’t bring dogs to the office), consider putting your corgi into doggy daycare or booking a dog walker.

Are corgis active or lazy?

Despite what some people think, corgis are not lazy at all!

In fact, they’re very active dogs that require at least 60 minutes of exercise each day.

This is thanks to their history as herding dogs.

They’d spend hours running around the farm, rounding up cattle for the farmer.

Once my corgi, Winston, has had his daily exercise, he likes nothing more than curling up at my feet or snoozing in his bed.

Why do corgis sleep at your feet?

Corgis sleep at your feet because they love being as close as possible to their owner!

They’re very affectionate dogs and 99% of the time, when I’m working at my desk, Winston will be curled up underneath it with his head on my slippers.
