Dog Birthday Cake ?

A delicious and easy birthday cake to make for your dog. This recipe requires just a few ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen! Winston absolutely loved having a small slice of this on his birthday, and a few days thereafter.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 100g carrots (grated) / 1 cup
  • 4 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 80g flour / ⅔ cup
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter (Xylitol-free)
  • 1 tsp baking soda / bicarbonate of soda (UK)
  • 1 packet dog treats for decoration (optional)

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Cake tin (6.5inches / 17cm wide)
  • 1 Grater

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease the cake tin.
  2. Combine honey and peanut butter and oil in a bowl; blend well.
  3. Stir in carrots until well combined.
  4. Sift together flour and baking soda and fold into the carrot mixture.
  5. Spoon cake batter into the prepared tin.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes (or until a toothpick comes out clean).
  7. Leave to cool... and then serve! Add dog treats for decoration if you wish.

Notes

If you find that your mixture is too runny, add in some more flour or grated carrots.
Alternatively, if you find your mixture is too dry or difficult to mix, add in an egg or a little more sunflower oil.
This makes a very small and thin birthday cake, which I was happy with. I didn't want to make Winston too much! I cut a small slice each evening and added it to his (reduced) kibble.
If you want to make a larger cake, just double the ingredients.
