Notes
Optional add-ins for variety
Canned proteins. 4-5 oz can each, drained:
- salmon (in water, no salt added, remove bones) - great source of omega-3s
- can of sardines (in water, no salt added) - great source of calcium, protein, and healthy fats (pictured)
- can of mackerel (in water, no salt added) - great source of omega-3s
Egg shells:
- Grind 1-2 eggshells in a coffee grinder or food processor - great source of calcium. Use a small grinder to get a fine grind. If eggshells stick to sides too much, add 1-2 tablespoons of water. Then drain over a paper towel.
Applesauce:
- Add 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce - rich in antioxidants & fiber
Notes
- Avoid gas forming veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, corn, and tomatoes.
- For dogs with sensitive stomachs, it’s best to mix a new food like this recipe with their old food for a few meals in the beginning. This will help avoid a quick increase in fiber that can cause bloating.
- If your dog tends to eat too fast, add more water when serving to slow them down.
