White Corgis: Everything You Need To Know
White corgis are absolutely adorable.
A few have popped up in my Instagram feed lately. As soon as they did, I had to find out everything I could about this unique kind of corgi.
So, how do white corgis occur, is it possible to buy one and how much do they cost?
Let’s take a look!
Can corgis be white?
First things first: yes, corgis can be white.
There are a couple of examples of white corgis online. For example, Ghost The Corgi and Winston The White Corgi.
Both have amassed sizable Instagram followers because they’re so unusual.
But now for the bad news.
White corgis are a genetic fluke and for that reason, you can’t choose to have one. It’s all down to luck.
Winston the white corgi’s owners explained how they never deliberately opted for a white corgi (because you can’t!). They thought they were getting a standard Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
The light gray fur that Winston had as a puppy never turned into the red and white shade typical for Pembrokes. Instead, it became even whiter.
And that’s when his owners realized they had a very rare corgi on their hands.
How much is a white corgi?
A white corgi is exactly the same price as a standard Pembroke Welsh Corgi, somewhere in the range of $1,500 and $2,500.
Are there white corgi breeders?
No, there aren’t specific white corgi breeders.
That’s because white corgis aren’t an official breed — they’re a genetic fluke.
White corgis like Winston and Ghost are red and white Pembroke Welsh corgis who were born without as much pigment in their cells as corgis typically have.
Who is Winston the white corgi?
Winston is a famous white corgi that’s amassed a massive online following.
Based in New York City, at the time of writing he has more than 215k Instagram followers and even has some famous fans.
In an interview with Woof Republic, Winston’s owner revealed that Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski has sent him private birthday messages.
